From: “Rotational energy surfaces and high-j-eigenvalue structure of polyatomic molecules”, by W. G. Harter and C.W. Patterson, Journal of chemical physics, vol 80, 4241-4261 (1984)

There is a nice project at Cornell called visualizing meaning, which is a down-to-earth approach to the vast field of information visualization.

For the project all 1,943 Cornell Faculty were asked to respond to the following question:

Of the many charts (graph, map, diagram, table and ‘other’) you have seen in your life, which has been the most important, remarkable, meaningful or valuable?

(The above image had been submitted by a Mr. Greg Ezra.)

interactive lederhosen

you see a telescopic carbon alphorn

In the upcoming semester Tim is going to teach geometry at the Technical University of Munich so it`s time to get an update on the latest trends in alpine customs, like these interfacing lederhosen (this is an update to this old “wearable computing post“). lederhosen by the way are perfect for high tech gadgets as you can’t wash them. (for that reason even Berlin kids were wearing them in my times…)

another interesting development is the above telescopic carbon alphorn, which is a swiss product but Alphorns are certainly also used in Bavaria. The improved transportability of this kind of Alphorn allows now for an enhanced cultural export. Next step in Alphorn evolution: the electronic Alphorn (or at least the silent Alphorrn for a start).

Signs are often context-sensitive, means they have a certain meaning only in certain contexts.

In my last posts (see e.g. here) I was speaking about the nature of garment acting as a sign or also as a symbol or icon. Here the context of a sign can imply very different meanings -even just for shoes.
