In the upcoming semester Tim is going to teach geometry at the Technical University of Munich so it`s time to get an update on the latest trends in alpine customs, like these interfacing lederhosen (this is an update to this old “wearable computing post“). lederhosen by the way are perfect for high tech gadgets as you can’t wash them. (for that reason even Berlin kids were wearing them in my times…)
another interesting development is the above telescopic carbon alphorn, which is a swiss product but Alphorns are certainly also used in Bavaria. The improved transportability of this kind of Alphorn allows now for an enhanced cultural export. Next step in Alphorn evolution: the electronic Alphorn (or at least the silent Alphorrn for a start).

A classic in midi-to-graphics “generative” animation is “pipedream” by Dave Crognale and Wayne Lytle. It is sold together with other works by them on a DVD compilation via their website animusic. The “pipedream”-video itself is however also downloadable via the SIGGRAPH animation site on archive.org. However if you have an ATI graphics card you can render it also in realtime via the ATI rendering-gadgets sites for MAC and Windows.
Wayne Lytle has worked also in scientific visualization, e.g. on this mathematical visualization video for string theorist Brian Greene.

Signs are often context-sensitive, means they have a certain meaning only in certain contexts.
In my last posts (see e.g. here) I was speaking about the nature of garment acting as a sign or also as a symbol or icon. Here the context of a sign can imply very different meanings -even just for shoes.

Above “devil” (thats how I called her) is my personal piece of “wearable computing”. I soldered it when I was 11 years old…so yes…this was still in the seventies.
